Karl Meszlényi is a Hungarian artist born in Budapest in 1985. His practice is rooted in continuous experimentation with both natural and artificial materials, embracing the unpredictable as an essential creative force. Chance, coincidence, and the inherent behavior of matter guide his process, allowing materials to react freely and shape their own transformations. By combining corroded metals, dry wood, natural minerals, industrial elements, and pigments in unexpected ways, he creates layered, textural works that blur the line between organic evolution and human intervention. His art invites us into a tactile meditation on impermanence—offering a sensory journey through cycles of birth, decay, and renewal—while reflecting on our place within the greater ecosystem.
Karl embarked on his artistic journey during his early years and pursued further education in visual representation and environmental design at the Eszterhazy Karoly College in Eger, Hungary, where he earned both his BA and MA degrees. He has exhibited his artwork in numerous solo shows and group exhibitions, and he has also been a participant in the Art Market Budapest in Hungary on multiple occasions. In 2015, Karl took part in Ari Kupsus’ Artist Camp at Pappenheim Castle in Iszkaszentgyörgy, Hungary. Over the course of his career, he has presented his art in diverse forms, including video art, installations, and performances.
He currently lives and works as a full-time artist in Úrkút, Hungary.
